Buried wood may be petrified when subjected to the action of silica in water-based solutions circulating in the sub-soil replacing molecules one by one. Depending on the conditions, the vegetal fibers are converted into quartz or, more rarely, into opal. Fossilized trunks are cut vertically to reveal a new natural pattern to enhance all kinds of setting.
